4. Essential Oils

a. Lemon Oil

Lemon oil is rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and antimicrobial properties, making it an essential item to have in your first aid kit. The anti-inflammatory properties of the oil help alleviate inflammation and swelling that come with bunions.

Mix three to four drops of lemon oil to two teaspoons of coconut oil. Apply the mixture on the affected area and massage softly. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes and then rinse it off. You can also leave the mixture overnight. Repeat this daily up to 1 to 2 times until you get relief from the bunion.

b. Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil is derived from the eucalyptus plant. This essential oil exhibits anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that help in reducing the inflammation associated with bunions.

Add 3-4 drops of eucalyptus oil to 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil or any other carrier oil and apply the mixture to the bunion. Let it stay in the affected area for at least 30 minutes before washing it off. Repeat this treatment twice every day. You can also leave the oil on overnight.

c. Peppermint Oil

The major constituent of peppermint essential oil is menthol. Menthol exhibits powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the swelling, pain, and redness that surface with the development of bunions.

Take two teaspoons of any carrier oil, add 3-4 drops of peppermint oil to it. Mix them well and apply it to the affected area. Rinse it off after about 30 minutes. You can apply the oil before getting to bed and leave it overnight for better results.
