Our body needs protein for the growth processes and the health of our muscles, but our kidneys have to work extra hard for metabolizing the protein. Most of our protein intake comes from meat. However, it is found that there is a link between a high animal-based protein diet and increase in the risk for kidney stones. Therefore, a high protein diet is not suitable for people with kidney disease.
Purine is credited with the production of uric acid, a waste product that is normally processed out by the kidneys. But again too much purine is burdening the kidneys and can cause stones. Meat is known to have a high concentration of purine.
