The thyroid is an endocrine gland located at the base of your neck which releases the hormones that regulate metabolism, internal temperature, growth, heartbeat and much more. When your thyroid is out of order, it consequently messes up the rest of your body.
Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are the two main types of thyroid disease. When the thyroid stops releasing enough hormones, hypothyroidism occurs. Its symptoms include sensitivity to cold, weight gain, depression, and fatigue. Whereas, hyperthyroidism is when the thyroid releases too much hormone and its symptoms are largely opposite, such as sensitivity to heat, weight loss, irregular heartbeat, irritability, and nervousness.
1. Fast Food
To create the hormones T3 and T4, our thyroid gland uses iodine from the food we eat. In fact, the thyroid is the only organ that uses iodine. Fast food is jammed with a lot of salt but very little iodine.
The iodized table salt we use at home to cook our food provides our body with its daily iodine requirement. But there is no guarantee fast food restaurants use iodized salt in their food. Several types of research have confirmed that fast food provides very little helpful iodine for all the salt you consume.
