3. Herbal Tea For Sinus Infection
(a) Cayenne Pepper Tea
Cayenne pepper is a spicy decongestant. It dilates the blood vessels in the nose and stimulates secretions, helping to drain the sinuses. To balance out the spiciness of the cayenne in the tea add some honey and lemon.
To one cup of boiling water add 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper with 2 teaspoons honey and the juice of one small lemon wedge. Mix them well. Drink the tea while it is warm and you will get instant relief from sinus symptoms. You can drink two to three cups of this herbal tea daily till your sinuses clear up.
(b) Ginger Tea
Ginger has a high level of antioxidant activity which makes it an effective home remedy to treat sinus infections. The gingerol provides anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the swelling of nasal membranes and relieves irritation in the nasal passages. It also reduces mucus production which helps relieve your stuffy head. The antimicrobial agents in ginger also clear out the sinus infection.
Add 1-2 teaspoons of grated ginger to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for 10 minutes. Strain it and drink while it is still warm. You can add a few teaspoons of honey according to your taste. You can drink three cups of ginger tea in a day.
(c) Green Tea
Green tea is considered to be one of the best herbal teas that provide many health benefits. The high antioxidant contents present in the tea help in treating infection. The healing powers of green tea make it very effective in treating sinusitis.
Drink warm green tea with some honey and lemon for an added flavor of this herbal tea. You can have three to four cups of green tea daily.
